Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity joins the world in mourning the death of former first lady, Rosalynn Carter.
Rosalynn Carter, along with former President Jimmy Carter, have served as Habitat for Humanity’s most famous volunteers over the 35 years they helped to build affordable housing with the organization.
Rosalynn Carter helped change the lives of thousands of homeowners, empowered countless women, and inspired millions of people.
"Mrs. Carter encouraged us to do what we can to lend a hand," said David Mullin, CEO of Green Mountain Habitat. "Over the years, she has blessed us with her compassion for serving others and a commitment to improving housing conditions. She led by example with a sense of service. We mourn her passing, but we will celebrate the bright shining example she has been and will continue to be for us."
Inspiring millions over the last three decades, President and Mrs. Carter have worked alongside more than 104,000 volunteers across the U.S. and in 14 countries to build, renovate and repair 4,390 homes. Since its founding in 1976, Habitat has served more than 46 million people worldwide.
Rosalynn was dedicated to changing the world, and she was deeply involved with the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
"It's being able to help people, but it's also being in a place where everybody wants to do something good. That's what faith means to me," she said.
In 2016, Habitat named President and Mrs. Carter as the inaugural Habitat Humanitarians for their extraordinary dedication to service in alignment with Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
